At an awards luncheon on Wednesday, March 11th R&H Construction was named a Governor’s Occupational Safety & Health (GOSH) Award winner. The Employer Award highlighted R&H’s overall safety program, including executive commitment, pre-planning, total worker health and employee empowerment. R&H’s executive management team has an expectation that workers go home safely to their families every night. In order to achieve that goal, safety communication is carried out at bi-monthly safety seminars that are attended by the management team. Additionally, daily pre-task planning is a focus. “We are very proactive and realize every day is a new day, ” said Art Bush, R&H Safety Director. “Construction is ever changing. We have to focus each day to make sure we are doing things safely.” Employee empowerment is another key. R&H workers say there is a family feel to the company and believe in the safety motto of ‘See. Say. Do. Something.” One worker shared, “They care about safety and quality.”
Over the last seven years, R&H has placed an emphasis on wellness and total worker health. The company offers a formalized wellness program, healthy breakfasts on site to promote nutrition, a safety, wellness and sustainability fair, health screenings and reimbursements for community races and fitness programs.
With a reduction in injuries and lost-time days the program is helping to meet the goal of sending everyone home safely.
