R&H in the Community
R&H is committed to giving back to our local community. Our team members consistently give their time, energy and talent to help local organizations pursue their missions and reach their goals. We encourage our staff to help guide the direction of our efforts, keeping the focus where our employees’ interest is. Our three guiding pillars of community service are youth, food security and the environment.
Youth
From building play areas and collecting school supplies to supporting trades education, R&H has focused our efforts on investing in the future of our community. A few of our recent community service partners include Heart of Oregon, Mountain Star Family Relief Nursery, New Avenues for Youth, Schoolhouse Supplies and Every Child Central Oregon.
Food Security
With efforts like food pantry organization and donation sorting, R&H is focused on fighting food insecurity, especially throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Once a month, our team helps with unloading, cleaning and organizing incoming pantry staples and produce for our friends at Neighborhood House. Other organizations we support include the Oregon Food Bank, Sunshine Division and The Giving Plate.
Environment
At R&H, sustainability is a priority, whether it be building sustainable projects or protecting our environment through community service efforts like beach cleanups and building lookout decks to enrich hiking trails. Some of the environment-focused nonprofit partners we’ve been fortunate to work with include Forest Park Conservancy, Friends of Trees, Portland Parks Foundation, SOLVE and Depave.

Outside of our primary pillars of community service, R&H partners with organizations where we can provide construction-expertise to better our community. From home remodels for low-income families to ADA-upgrades for veterans, we regularly donate time, talent and materials to support those in need. These partners include Rebuilding Together, REACH, Saving Grace, Make-a-Wish Oregon, My Father’s House, Kenton Women’s Village and the Portland Winter Lights Festival.

The students toured the eight-story mixed-use development and adjacent historic pavilion, observing each stage of the building process. Our team then answered questions about life in construction, available career paths and the vital role each trade and team member plays on site. We hope this hands-on experience inspires these students to pursue careers in construction!

Our team then answered questions about life in construction, available career paths and the vital role each trade and team member plays on site. Volunteering with Sunshine Division is a perennial favorite at R&H! This past month, two groups of R&H team members and industry friends rolled up their sleeves and packaged an impressive amount of food in a short amount of time. What can be accomplished in two, two-hour shifts? The stats say it all: 26 total volunteers, 634 boxes built, 11,726 pounds of food packaged and one epic karaoke performance of Sweet Caroline (with custom @sunshinedivision lyrics woven in)🎵🎤

This spring, R&H partnered with Depave to take a parking lot at Powell Butte Elementary and turn it into an interactive, nature-inspired play area. R&H team members volunteered their time over multiple weekends to dig footings, pour concrete and lift the beautiful sequoia play logs, custom-built by Oregon Log Homes, into their final place. Thank you Depave and GreenWorks for letting us be a part of this great project! @depavepdx @greenworkspdx

While things look a bit different this year, we’re happy to share that we were still able to spread some cheer and support local toy drives including KGW Great Toy Drive, Youth Villages Holiday Heroes, Wonderland Express and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.
