Bend Broadband VaultBend, OR

R&H teamed up with Hoffman Construction on the Bend Broadband Vault, a 30,000 s.f. Tier III Data Center, constructed in a building R&H first built in 2004.  The interior of the former manufacturing building was demolished and then converted into a LEED Gold certified, state-of-the-art data center.  This was not a small feat considering data centers consume an enormous amount of energy.  In order to reach the sustainability and Tier III Data Center goals the entire building was structurally upgraded to accommodate the added roof load of 15,000 s.f. of solar panels and the high efficiency electrical and mechanical equipment.  The data center is cooled using ambient air flow.  Two “box-car” size Kyoto units were installed, circulating 80,000 CFM of air through data racks and then through a heat exchanger to dissipate the hot air produced by the racks.  Additional DX cooling is available on days the temperature climbs near 100 degrees.  This is only the second US facility to utilize this system.
